What is Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)?

Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) — A branch of the Department of Justice that formerly existed and had responsibility for immigration and naturalization. INS has been renamed and became part of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on March 1, 2003.
