What is Bit Depth?

Bit Depth — Also referred to as Pixel Depth or Color Depth. Bit (Binary-Digit) Depth describes the number of bits used to define each pixel in an image to determine its color range. The greater the Bit Depth, the greater number of tones (grey scale or color) are available to accurately display the digital image.
