What is FireWire?

FireWire — Apple's trademarked name for the IEEE 1394 external bus standard. This is an extremely fast computer port that can be used to connect up to 63 devices. FireWire supports isochronous data, meaning that it can deliver data at a guaranteed rate. Other trademarked names for the IEEE 1394 standard include i.link and Lynx.
