What is Red Eye Reduction?

Red Eye Reduction — Some cameras with red eye reduction have a small bright red light, located on the front of the camera, that turns on when the shutter button is first depressed. The eye's iris will close in response to this light, making the opening in the eye smaller. The regular cameraflash then fires with less chance of being reflected back from the rear of the eye.
