What is Family Medical Leave Act?

Family Medical Leave Act — A federal law passed in 1993 that entitles a covered employee to take up to twelve weeks of leave, in any twelve month period, to care for the birthing or adoption of a child, or to care for the serious health condition of the employee or the employee's child, spouse, or parent.
