What is complementation?

complementation — The production of a wild-type phenotype when two different mutations are combined in a diploid or a heterokaryon. The production of the wild-type phenotype by a cell or an organism that contains two mutant genes. If complementation occurs the mutations are almost certainly non-allelic (ie in different genes).
