What is cystic fibrosis (CF)?

cystic fibrosis (CF) — A potentially lethal human disease of secretory cells, showing excess lung mucus secretion, and inherited as an autosomal recessive on chromosome 7. CF is caused by mutations in a gene encoding the cystic fibrosis membrane conductance regulator, a transmembrane protein involved in ion transport.
