What is HIPPA, Records Confidentiality?

In 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, known as the HIPPA law, was passed in order to address several concerns then existing in the medical field. The HIPPA act is intended to ensure continuity of healthcare insurance coverage for people changing jobs, and has a provision for the management of health information with respect to the confidentiality of medical records. New medical release forms are developed to allow the release of the patient's medical record to third parties. More and better medical information is now available under HIPPA, including a patient's right to receive copies of their own records promptly. HIPPA even allows a procedure for correcting mistakes found in the records.
