What is Forensic Accountant?

A Forensic Accountant is an accounting professional, virtually always a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), who is engaged by one side or the other in a dispute to review the accounting practices of a party. The point of the review is to prove up the existence of money or to prove that the funds in dispute were misapplied or mishandled. Forensic Accountants are used in cases all the way from divorce to white collar crime.
